This session is about shifting from a problem-solving approach to a personal development approach as a coach.
We fall into problem-solving mostly because we focus on the topic rather than the client. It’s in our nature to be problem solvers. We also love stories. The same is true for our clients. So, it’s natural that we become focused on the client’s situation and want to help them fix it.
But that doesn’t create sustainable change for the client. A more robust, powerful and longer-lasting approach is to help the client change themselves. To do that, the coach must discipline themselves and pull their attention away from the topic and instead focus on the client and helping them change internally so they can deal with their external challenges in a new way.
As we help clients shift how they hold their problems and challenges, we help them open their minds to a whole new set of solutions. This is our expertise as coaches: helping the client develop the way they see themselves and their world.
In this session coaches will learn how to shift from the external to internal world and they will experience how a new way of thinking offers many more options for a way forward.
This learning will happen through the presentation of a coaching model, multiple short demonstrations and practice with other coaches.
A period of Q&A will wrap up the session.
