The ICF Code of Ethics governs the standards of ethical conduct of ICF credentialed coaches. It is used by coaches, mentors, coach students, supervisors, trainers, etc. as a set of guidelines in managing ethical dilemmas.
Ethics specifically refers to a system of moral principles that affect the way in which people make decisions and how they lead their lives (Townsend cited in Passmore, 2011).
Ethical dilemmas involves people, their values, beliefs, assumptions, actions and behaviours. Because it is a conglomerate of multiple factors, the solution or answer to ethical dilemmas are not obvious, easy or straight forward.
Hence coaches and other users of the ICF Code of Ethics may find it difficult to overcome these ethical dilemmas.
In this session, the participants will be exposed to:-
Gaining clarity over why ethical dilemmas arise
Vetting a set of examples of ethical dilemmas which are representative of incidents that arise for coaches and their clients during their coaching assignments.
Brainstorming in groups to create potential “solutions” to these ethical dilemma examples
Learning recommended strategies to mitigate potential ethical dilemmas

About The Speaker
Dr. FRANCES PENAFORT is a Master Certified Coach from International Coach Federation, USA. Her background is coloured with a myriad of work experiences. This includes being an academic for 24 years, a management consultant to MNCs in Malaysia and overseas (Finland, Denmark, Australia, China, India, Singapore, Thailand and Brunei) as well as being an executive coach to organisations, both public listed as well as government-linked.
Her strong passion in her executive coaching experience has enabled leaders and their teams to break mental barriers and ‘raise the bar’. She herself continues to pursue this value.
Her clients have described her key strengths as her sincere concern for them, strong listening skills, deep level of patience and a high level of professionalism.
